Back in 1996, Snoop Lion (who was still going by the name Snoop Doggy Dogg) and his bodyguard were acquitted of first and second-degree murder in the shooting of a gang member. So Snoop knows trials. Which makes his opinion about the George Zimmerman acquittal interesting.

CNN caught up with the rapper and he had an interesting perspective on the case. Basically, Snoop made the argument that the prosecution was lacking because Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old shot by Zimmerman, was black:

“To me, the prosecution didn’t even try to prosecute him. They sent the weakest lawyers, with the weakest case. When we catch cases as black males — black-on-black — they find the best public defenders and the best attorneys to send us to jail, but they couldn’t find a great attorney to fight that case?”

Snoop was also asked about the controversial Stand Your Ground laws, and whether they needed to be repealed or not:

“Definitely, I feel like certain laws fit the crime, that law didn’t fit the crime.”

The Stand Your Ground law wasn’t used by the defense. However, Juror B37 admitted that the law was discussed during their jury deliberations.
