To be the wife of a politician is clearly to have the capacity and will to forgive, even when your husband is being a total wiener.

Huma Abedin pulled a Hillary Clinton, a la Monica Lewinsky scandal, and publicly supported her husband, New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, after new revelations that he had engaged in online sex chats under the pseudonym “Carlos Danger.”

A woman, 22, released information and lewd photographs of Weiner to gossip website The Dirty, reminiscent of the half-naked selfies that caused him to resign from Congress back in 2011.

But Abedin, who was pregnant at the time of his first sexting scandal, stood beside her husband at a press conference in NYC to address the new photos and tell reporters that what goes on between the couple is their business.

“Our marriage, like many others has had its ups and its downs,” she said. “It took a lot of work and whole lot of therapy to get to a place where I could forgive Anthony.”

Abedin noted that the decision to stay married to Weiner was her own. “It was not an easy choice in any way, but I made the decision that it was worth staying in this marriage,” she said. “That was a decision I made for me, for our son, and for our family.”

Abedin added that the situation is “between us and our marriage,” saying that “we discussed all this before Anthony decided he would run for mayor.”

And while she is willing to stand beside him during the mayoral race, many are calling for the disgraced Weiner to pull out, since he can’t seem to keep his wiener in his pants.

The New York Times editorial board suggested Anthony Weiner withdraw from the race for New York mayor Tuesday evening.

Mr. Weiner should take his marital troubles and personal compulsions out of the public eye, away from cameras, off the Web and out of the race for mayor of New York City.

The board even weighed in on Abedin and her devotion to Weiner:

It’s difficult not to feel for Ms. Abedin. The couple deserved privacy as they worked through their problems — and they had it, until they re-emerged in public life and Mr. Weiner decided he was a good fit to run New York City. Mr. Weiner and Ms. Abedin have been saying that his sexual behavior is not the public’s business. Well, it isn’t, until they make it our business by plunging into a political campaign.
