If it looks and smells like hush money, what is it?

Asiana Airlines is now offering all surviving 288 victims of the plane crash that occurred last month $10,000 a piece.

Asiana spokesperson Lee Hyomin stated:

“Regardless of the degree of the injury, we are offering $10,000 to everyone,” Lee said. “There could be situations when the money is urgently needed and this could reduce inconveniences.”

Hyomin also pointed out that the money was in no way a settlement and stated that if victims did accept the money, they were in no way prohibited from filing lawsuits against the airlines if they pleased. This seems very suspicious since a South Korean news agency reported that there were eight conditions of taking the money.

Last month in San Francisco, an Asiana airplane crash killed three people and left the remaining 288 passengers injured with different variations of severity. Now, the company is insisting that the victims receive the money.

The mother of Kim Ye-rim, a young woman who was killed by the crash, stated that someone from the airlines offered her the money last week, but she declined.

“We said no on the phone. We felt offended and didn’t want to accept,” said the mother, Jeong Ouek-yoon. “We didn’t know whether there were conditions to the payment.”

Think $10,000 to victims who sustained life threatening injuries is going to fly?
