Apparently weight is now a deciding factor when trying to determine who gets a street named after them.

A popular petition to rename a local street corner after Biggie Smalls was brought before a community board hearing this week, but members weren’t as excited as Brooklyn residents to honor the late rapper.

In fact, they had some not so flattering things to say about the hip-hop pioneer.

CB2 member Lucy Koteen said she “looked up the rapper’s history” and read what she had learned to the full board Tuesday night. “He started selling drugs at 12, he was a school dropout at 17, he was arrested for drugs and weapons charge, he was arrested for parole violations, he was arrested in North Carolina for crack cocaine, in 1996 he was again arrested for assault, he had a violent death and physically the man is not exactly a role model for youth,” she said. “I don’t see how this guy was a role model and frankly it offends me.”

It gets better.

Another board member cited Biggie’s lyrics as reason for denying the Brooklyn native a corner in his old neighborhood. That objection was countered by petitioners who support the late rapper.

But the lyricist just used street vernacular, countered petitioner LeRoy McCarthy, also lamenting to DNA Info that “board members should not hold Wallace’s physical appearance nor how he died against him.”

We agree. But even more glaring is the fact that men like Christopher Columbus, also violent and even murderous, have entire holidays named after them.

Funny.
