On Thursday evening, President Obama addressed the nation to apologize to Americans losing their current health insurance plans as a result of the Affordable Care Act, although he promised that those who liked their plan wouldn’t have to give them up. “I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me,” he told NBC News in an exclusive interview at the White House. John Boehner couldn’t hold it back! The Senate passed a historic piece of gay rights legislation that will ban workplace discrimination against employees for their sexual orientation. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act was passed with a vote of 64 to 32 and marks the first time federal lawmakers had approved legislation to advance gay rights since 2010. It looks like schools could take a cue from the Senate and pass their own ENDA measure (see above). A 13-year-old Kansas boy was suspended from school indefinitely for refusing to take of his purse. His mother, baffled by the school’s decision, says her son wears his Vera Bradley shoulder bag to school every day and isn’t sure why officials at Anderson County Senior-Junior School are complaining now.
