The family of Texas honor student Robert Cameron Redus is speaking out after his questionable death at the hands of a police officer during a routine traffic stop.

The 23-year-old University of the Incarnate Word student was reportedly shot four to six times by police officer Corporal Chris Carter, 35, near the campus after he pulled Redus over for driving “erratically at a high rate of speed,” police said.

Now, Redus’ devastated family has issued a statement, asking for prayers during this tragic time:

We are understandably devastated by the death of our dear son Cameron and we ask for your prayers as we deal with our tragic loss.

A witness claims that he heard someone sarcastically say, “Oh, are you gonna shoot me?” before hearing gunshots.

According to police, “a struggle ensued between the suspect driver and the police officer.” Authorities say it’s unclear why the struggle occurred and why Redus was shot multiple times. Carter is currently on an administered paid leave while the investigation continues.

We pray Redus’ family gets the answers they deserve.
