Fans of Saturday Night Live caused a major stir last Fall by expressing their disappointment with the lack of black female characters on the show. Now, the viewers have gotten exactly what they’ve wanted.

According to Deadline.com, comedian Sasheer Zamata has been announced as the newest female cast member on SNL. The University of Virginia graduate will become the first black female cast member in five years since the departure of Maya Rudolph. Sasheer was trained and brought up in the Uptown Citizen’s Brigade as well so she should fit in very well. Especially judging from some of her clips.

Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels was secretly holding a talent search across the country. Many comedians were called back to do a screen test in the SNL studio last December, but Zamata ultimately got the gig.

Zamata will make her debut on January 18th with Drake as the host.

Congratulations to the young star! Check her out in action via the videos above and below.
