Kendrick Lamar is a wise and humble man.

After being snubbed by the Grammys this past Sunday, the “Poetic Justice” rapper finally breaks his silence on Macklemore beating him out in the Best Rap Album category.

Last night, Kendrick Lamar made a guest appearance at fellow Cali rapper Dom Kennedy‘s New York City show at Irving Plaza. Upon leaving the stage, the good folks at XXL caught up with the “m.A.A.d. city” rapper to ask him about Macklemore’s win.

“It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man,” Kendrick said. “He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”

He also talked about the Academy’s lack of appreciation for hip-hop.

“I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre. We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”

Hours after winning four Grammys, Macklemore posted a text conversation apologizing to Kendrick for “robbing” him of the coveted hip-hop honor, but the “Can’t Hold Us” rapper never posted K.Dot’s response.

Well, K.Dot has spoken and there’s no ill-will.
