Just as the music showcases of South By Southwest begin to pick up momentum, the acclaimed music festival has been devastated by a heartbreaking tragedy.

At 12:30 a.m. CST Thursday, March 13, approximately 23 people were struck by a drunk driver outside of the Mohawk located in Downtown Austin on 9th and Red River streets.

According to the Austin Police Department, a driver suspected of DUI was pulled over at a nearby gas station before speeding the wrong way on a one-way street.

According to reports, the driver plowed into a crowd of people, injuring 23 people, five of which are in critical condition, and two are deceased.

The driver attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was eventually tasered and apprehended by the Austin Police Department.

During this time, Odd Future’s Tyler, The Creator was about to perform his highly anticipated House Of Vans show at the Mohawk when festival goers were struck outside the venue.

Tyler tweeted:

We send our condolences to family members of the deceased, and hope the five critically injured victims pull through.
