Hollywood’s love affair with Lupita Nyong’o won’t be ending anytime soon, and for good reason.
After nabbing her very first Oscar for her breakout role in 12 Years a Slave just last month, Lupita has already snagged herself another big gig as the face of Lancôme. It was only a matter of time until a beauty brand scooped her up–she’s the epitome of beautiful inside and out. From her flawless ebony skin to the way she glides down red carpets with sheer grace, our favorite leading lady is perfect for her new role.
“I am truly honored to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history that I have always loved. I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman’s freedom to be herself,” Nyong’o said in a statement released by Lancôme.
She told WWD in an exclusive interview:
“What appealed to me about Lancôme is that they’re not dictating what beauty is,” she said. “What they do supports something that already is — and that was appealing to me, too. It’s what drew me to them. Hopefully it’s a symbiotic relationship — that I benefit from being associated with them, and they benefit from being associated with me, as well. And for the consumer at large, I think Lancôme has a range of products for every woman, and I think having me will expand people’s understanding of, hopefully, what Lancôme stands for, who Lancôme is for.”
We cannot wait for Lupita’s campaign once it debuts this summer, but we’re already celebrating this as another win for brown girls everywhere.
