New evidence suggests that the FedEx truck that collided with a bus in California, killing 10, was going at full speed. Investigators now believe that the driver of the truck failed to brake due to the lack of tire marks, a National Transportation Safety Board official said during a Saturday press conference. Claims that the truck was already on fire before it crashed have not been confirmed, but as victims of the horrific accident are still being identified, investigators say they will examine the truck’s transmission to determine how fast it was traveling. Following four strong signals heard last week during the search of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet, electronic pings have gone silent since the last one heard on April 8. Almost 40 days into the search, this could mean that the batteries powering the black box recorders on board may have died as locator beacons only last for about a month. The search will still continue, though: a robotic submersible will be sent down to search for wreckage once officials are confident no more sounds will be detected. [Gawker]

Two men were arrested during an attempted robbery after one of them butt dialed the police. Todd Joseph Weiss and Justin Grant Evans broke into a Minneapolis auto shop last week when police and their K-9s arrived shortly after to apprehend them after one of the men unknowingly placed a call to 911. The men were taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries where Evans admitted to taking 15 Xanax and completely denied ever being in the building at the time of the crime, despite the fact that his voice was recorded on the call. One week after being the flower girls at their parents’ wedding, two-year-old twins were laid to rest yesterday after being found dead on a tarp filled with rainwater atop a neighbors pool. Jocelyn and Shaylyn Spurlock of Indiana were reported missing Tuesday evening after the girls’ mother left them with their grandmother, who fell asleep while watching them. The girls were found more than an hour later by authorities, and they were rushed to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. They were buried in the same coffin, holding hands in the white flower girl dresses they wore just a week before. [Daily Mail]
