When Nicki Minaj accepted her statue for ‘Best Female Hip-Hop Artist’ at the BET Awards last night, she spoke on a few topics like the culture being ‘male driven,’ her Pink Print album, and even revealed the time when she thought she was about to die and didn’t want to call an ambulance and attract TMZ’s attention.
But even through all of that, the stand-out moment was when Nicki declared she writes her own music – unlike some people – and the audience clearly felt it was a jab at fellow nominee Iggy Azalea.
Nicki went on to say:
“What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it.”
Of course she added in “no shade,” but many assumed she was aiming the statement towards Iggy. She only added fuel to the fire when she ended her speech with:
“I hope and pray that BET continues to honor authenticity, and that’s all I’m a say about that.”
Hmm. This could definitely be interpreted as shade, but see for yourself below.
