Thank goodness little Mikayla Capers is okay.

The 7-year-old – who was stabbed in an East New York elevator on June 1st, a heinous crime that resulted in the death of her best friend – is finally out of the hospital and fully recovered after weeks of treatment.

The adorable little girl made her first public appearance this weekend at Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, as her family came out to support ant shake hands.

According to the NY Post, Mikayla told them that she is “feeling good” after the tragedy. Mikayla sported a pretty dress and big smile throughout the night.

The site reports:

At one point she raised her hands over her head and cupped them together in the shape of a heart.

“It’s for P.J.,” she said, referring to her 6-year-old pal, P.J. Avitto, who was killed in the June 1 attack.

Her family, which has asked for help relocating, is hoping to get Mikayla settled into a new home by Sept. 1 so she can start the third grade in housing away from the Boulevard Houses project — the scene of the carnage.

“The most exciting thing about it is that I get to see the rest of my classmates again,” Mikayla said when asked about the new school year.

The child, with two visible scars on her chest, bounced to music, smiled and hugged great-grandmother Regenia Trevathan just a day after her alleged attacker was found mentally fit to stand trial.

Her family revealed that she is currently experiencing post-traumatic stress, and is staying with her grandmother 24/7 as to avoid the elevator of her parents’ building.

The family is currently in the process of getting a new home so that Mikayla’s environment is safer as she starts 3rd grade next month.

Mikayla and her family are in our prayers.
