Trend alert: Fashion publication induces major eye-rolling after claiming that a thing that’s been a thing for us “urban” folk is now fashion’s latest fad.

First it was cornrows—or epic “bold braids,” according to Marie Claire. Then there were durags—or as Chanel would prefer to call them, “urban tie caps”—and today, they bring you the Timberlands. Yes. Timberlands.

As per Danielle Prescod, who happens to be a black fashion editor for ELLE magazine:

Last summer, it was the beloved hippie sandal, the Birkenstock, that was resurrected by the fashion pack. This season, I predict a similar ascent to fashion greatness for the classic Timberland boot. Here’s why: All cool girls are wearing Timbs, from Cara Delevingne to Rihanna to Gwen Stefani. (And it’s no coincidence that they all hang out, either—cool begets cool. I’m not saying she’s not cool, but Taylor Swift has never been photographed in a Timberland.) Anyway, now that stylish babies North West and Blue Carter have been spotted in Timbs—and they just learned how to walk—I know that they’re about to explode. They. Are. Happening.

But, uh. Girl. They’ve. Been. Happening. For decades.

Black Twitter was, of course, not having any of this, blowing up her mentions with backlash before prompting her to respond.

And by mainstream, she must mean “white.”

A “fun discourse.” Yeah, that’s what this was.
