Many wonder how it would be for a blind person to adjust to parenthood, but for Kathy Beitz, she doesn’t have to worry about that.

The new mom is legally blind, suffering from a macular degeneration called Stargardt, but was able to see her newborn son for the first time, all thanks to new technology.

According to ABC News, Kathy was able to see her little boy through glasses that help the blind see, and the video of her wearing “eSight Eyewear” for the first time is amazing.

As she is given the chance to hold her son after giving birth via C-section, Kathy’s first reaction is “Oh my God!”

She tells her husband as she observes her child, “Look at his long toes,” she says. “I think he looks like us.”

The site reports on the miracle-making glasses:

The glasses cost $15,000 and are not covered by insurance, but Beitz received them thanks to eSight’s fundraising program, said Taylor West, eSight’s outreach director. He said the glasses, which are registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, work by capturing real-time video and enhancing it for the legally blind to see. About 140 people have eSight glasses in North America, West said.

These glasses have changed Kathy’s life, as she is now able to complete tasks that were difficult before, such as buying groceries, and obviously see the people she loves.
