The days following the incident that landed Bobbi Kristina Brown in the hospital have been filled with reports that the only child of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston is near death, but a source close to the family confirms the 21-year-old is not brain dead.
Following an inaccurate report from The Daily Mail that said Brown was taken off life support, her father released a statement addressing false rumors surrounding his daughter’s condition.
“If we issued a statement every time the media published a false report regarding this matter, that’s all we would be doing 24 hours a day. This is false, just as is the vast majority of the other reporting that is currently taking place,” he said, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Bobby did not, however, release details about Brown’s health, leaving many to speculate just how dire the situation is.
According to TMZ, Brown is on life support and her father is reluctant to take her off:
Bobby’s feelings are not shared by doctors, who have advised him she will not improve and pulling life support is an appropriate action. But Brown and his family — who are deeply religious — believe doctors cannot account for miracles … miracles the family has seen before.
We’re told Bobbi Kristina’s condition has remained the same since Monday morning … her brain functions are minimal and there has been no improvement.
Family sources say this has been an ongoing discussion and they believe Brown could come around to the doctor’s point of view as time goes on … but as of late Thursday he’s not budging.
And a family member reportedly told People Magazine that Brown’s loved ones were arriving at the hospital to say their goodbyes.
But a source close to the family tells USA Today that those reports are false, adding that “it’s wrong to say the family is gathering to say goodbye, because the family has been there since the beginning, so nothing is any different today for them.”
Brown is not brain dead, according to that source.
Meanwhile, new details about how Brown was discovered by her alleged husband and friend Max Lomas are surfacing. According to Lomas’ lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant, a visit to Brown’s home from a cable technician prompted the men to look for her. If you recall, Brown was reportedly found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub.
Nick “was actually the one who answered the door for the cable man, and he was showing the cable man around,” Merchant, of The Merchant Law Firm in Marietta, Ga., told E!. Lomas “says that he knocked on her door and he didn’t get an answer, so he went in and checked on her to see how she was doing.”
“He’s actually the one that found her, and he called for Nick, screamed for Nick, and then he immediately called 911.”
Brown remains at Emory University Hospital in Georgia, where she is being treated. On Thursday, longtime family friend Clive Davis spoke to reporters about his pre-Grammy gala (taking place Saturday) and his concern for Brown, daughter of his good friend Whitney Houston, who was also found in a tub just hours before his annual celebration.
“It’s been heartbreaking to see the Houston family in such pain again,” Davis told Billboard. “I certainly offer my continued support.”
Earlier this week, TMZ caught up with media mogul Oprah Winfrey, who said this when asked about Brown and Tyler Perry’s involvement with the family:
Tyler’s been really close to the family. Tyler was really supportive of Whitney when she had her troubles. He intervened and tried to help her. I know he’s been instrumental in trying to help Bobbi Kristina too. There aren’t any words right now.
I was not close to Whitney. My friend Tyler was close to Whitney. I couldn’t say I was close to her. Just because you do an interview doesn’t make you close. I’m not one of those people. It’s a sad time. I don’t believe there’s any irony in the timing. It’s just been three years,” Oprah said referring to Whitney’s untimely death on Feb. 11, 2012.
