The 87th Annual Academy Awards are finally upon us, and while there was a major stir when Ava DuVernay and the cast of Selma were snubbed, every once in a while, the Academy gives African-American artists their dues.
There are actors whose talents were too grand to ignore, such as Hattie McDaniel and Sidney Poitier, and there are others such as director Steve McQueen and screenplay writer Geoffrey Fletcher who work behind the scenes and have been recognized on the big stage.
