The bidding war for where the Obama library, museum, and presidential center will be built has come to an end. The library will be built on Chicago’s South Side; an area that President Barack Obama had a major influence on before he entered office. The Chicago-based Barack Obama Foundation is slated to make an official announcement about the project within the next two weeks. The University of Chicago’s bid illustrated how building the library in the community would strengthen the impoverished area’s economy and would better its education through launching partnerships with local universities, high schools, and elementary schools. Thousands of people lost their homes in the Hurricane Sandy tragedy, and now three years after it happened, many of those same people are losing money as well. Many are being forced to repay some of the aid money they got from the government. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) claims that some people were overpaid and they’re not only demanding they get the money back, they want the interest on it as well. “FEMA is committed to being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars and ensuring that eligible applicants receive the disaster assistance they need,” said a spokesman. “We are also committed to ensuring that proper safeguards are in place to make sure federal dollars are correctly spent.” Hurricane Sandy caused nearly $50 billion in damages. One of the most pivotal series will soon be making a return to television. According to reports, Roots, which captures the essence of the African-American experience during slavery, is being remade and is slated to air on the A&E Lifetime and History channel next year. “We are proud to bring this saga to fans of the original, as well as to a new generation that will experience this powerful and poignant tale for the first time,” History’s executive vice president and general manager, Dirk Hoogstra said. “Audiences will once again feel the impact of Kunta Kinte’s indomitable spirit.” Read more.
