The Daily Grind Video

Ellie Goulding just spilled the beans about “the love affair that changed her life” in ELLE UK’s July Body Issue. Spoiler alert: she’s not talking about Ed Sheeran.

Goulding takes pride in her strong sense of self-love and bold voice. The 28-year-old songwriter knows who she is and who she wants to be, with or without a man in the picture. That’s not to say that a couple of lads haven’t fit in the frame from time to time.

She opens up about her “relationship” with singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran and the rumors that she cheated on him with One Direction star Niall:

“I did go on a few dates with Niall [Horan] but I was never in a relationship with Ed [Sheeran]. I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing,” she said.

Maybe because Ed wrote a song allegedly about her?

Ellie doesn’t let rumors about her love life define her as an artist, but she’s frustrated by the way media often portrays women as dependent on men.

“I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven’t dated. It’s something I’ve talked about with Taylor (Swift) a lot. She definitely feels that. She gets bothered by it. It’s like, you can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but the thing that everyone is going to talk about is some relationship they think you have had or not had. It’s definitely something we both think happens to female artists over male artists.”

However, the “Burn” artist is more than willing to give the scoop on her real romance with Dougie Poynter. She appreciates the musician’s “quiet depth” and says he’s been through a lot, revealing she’s had a thing for Poynter for quite some time now.

“…I fancied him but I thought he was so out of my league. Way too good-looking for me.”

She’s already hearing wedding bells and says Poynter is “definitely the one forever.” Talk about dropping the real F bomb.

“Calvin Harris has already offered to play at our wedding. Not that we’ve organised one. But the offer has been made.”

Well, she’s got Harris’ support. Only time will tell if Poynter’s on the same page. In the meantime, take a hot sec to check out Goulding’s feature in ELLE UK this July.
