You haven’t heard the true story of Harriet Tubman until you’ve watched Comedy Central’s Drunk History segment with Crissle West and Octavia Spencer.

Curated by comedian Derek Waters, the show features drunk participants speaking on America’s historical figures paired with famous celebrity reenactments. Last week’s episode featured West, the hilarious co-host of The Read and frequent commenter on everything Black, telling the tale of civil rights hero Harriet Tubman.

Crissle explains in all her tipsy glory Tubman’s master plan to free the slaves as a spy with the Union army. With Tubman’s “army of bad bitches,” the pioneer liberated nearly one thousand slaves.

From The Huffington Post:

“I’m not even about to bulls***t you; this is about to be some bulls***t,” Spencer recites as Tubman. “You motherf**kers have never seen no s**t like this before. I got some dope ass s**t planned out.”

An inebriated West delivers an impressive narration as Tubman kicks butt. West’s reflection says it all: “This s***t was dope as hell.”

In the past, Drunk History has featured comedians like Lamorne Morris as the late Martin Luther King Jr., Lisa Bonet as Mary Ellen Pleasant, and Retta as Sylvia Robinson, the woman behind hip-hop’s first song, “Rapper’s Delight” by Sugar Hill Gang.

Check out Spencer in her role as Tubman in the comical but informative clip above.
