Anonymous recently published a YouTube video declaring war on ISIS following last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris, and it looks like the hacktivist group may have taken its first steps towards battle.
Anonymous has reportedly shut down thousands of ISIS-related Twitter accounts – 5,500 to be exact. The group has been uniting under the #OpParis and #OpIceISIS hashtag. Anonymous staged a similar attack earlier this year after the Charlie Hebdo massacre, which resulted in the takedown of thousands of Twitter accounts. Aside from social media, according to The Independent, Anonymous has begun to leak personal information about suspected extremists. The site also reports that it has seen at least one post that even contains an ISIS recruiter’s address in Europe.
Anonymous had another vendetta earlier this month, in which they promised to expose over one thousand KKK members, but the results were lackluster. Let’s hope the hacktivists have stepped their game up a bit and are able to put up a decent fight against ISIS.
