Gabrielle Union is pretty much an open book when it comes to her life, but what many didn’t know is that the beloved actress has been struggling with infertility issues for almost three years.

In an excerpt from her forthcoming memoir, We’re Going to Need More Wine, Mrs. Wade revealed that she has had “eight or nine miscarriages” in the years since she and husband Dwyane Wade decided to have children. She wrote, “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.”

The Being Mary Jane star told People Magazine, “I never wanted kids. Then I became a stepmom, and there was no place I’d rather be than with them.” One thing we know for sure is that Gabrielle Union can handle anything life throws at her, with grace and elegance — just like these other stars who’ve had similar issues when trying to conceive.

“About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time and I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life. I picked out names, I envisioned what my child would look like … I was feeling very maternal. I flew back to New York to get my check up — and no heartbeat. Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat. I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I’ve ever written in my life.”- Life Is But A Dream Documentary (2013)

“I didn’t know that I was going to be so open with [my fertility challenges], but meeting people at my fertility doctor’s office who are going through the same things I’m going through, I thought, ‘Why not share my story?’ It’s been really emotional. There are definitely times when I walked out [of the doctor’s office] hysterically crying, and other times when I was like, ‘Okay, everything’s looking good.’ The waiting and waiting has been a roller coaster.”- Glamour Magazine (2015)

“I was totally against it but in a fit of crying @papoosepapoose said ‘you are not the only one going thru this , we will get thru it’ …made me realize how many women like myself experience the same thing and don’t have a strong partner by their side to say it will be alright. So I’m here to tell anyone going thru a similar situation that it is not over and God has the last say.”- Instagram (2016)

“When I was 23 years old, I used to tell myself, ‘In three years, I’m going to have kids.’ Then I turned 24. ‘In three years, I’m going to have kids.’ Every single year I kept saying that. And then after awhile, it’s like, OK, now I want to, and it’s not so easy.”- Fab Life (2015)

“I will say, honestly, John and I are having trouble. We would have kids five, six years ago if it’d happened, but my gosh, it’s been a process! And we’ve seen fertility doctors … So, anytime somebody asks me if I’m going to have kids, I’m like, ‘One day, you’re going to ask that to the wrong girl who is really struggling, and it’s going to be really hurtful to them. And I hate that. So, I hate it. Stop asking me!'”- Fab Life (2015)

“I do suffer from endometriosis. So there’s a bit of a challenge there, but I will say this: I am working on my diet; a diet I do when I want to just clean myself out and get rid of inflammation in my body.”-  A Whole New You (2017)

Don’t worry, Gab! There’s an army of women who’ve been through the same heartache and made it out feeling happy and blessed. Well wishes to all the moms and moms to be.
