June is Black Music Month. In 1979, President Jimmy Carter decreed that the month of June would be dedicated to celebrating the African American music and musicians that have helped the country to dance, express their faith through song, march against injustice, and to defend the country’s enduring promise of freedom and opportunity for all.

As part of Black Music Month, Spotify is releasing a special slate of Spotify Singles throughout June from artists featured on Spotify’s Are & Be Rising playlist. The playlist is dedicated to shining a spotlight on emerging R&B talent.

Today (June 20), they released the next Single from up-and-coming singer Destin Conrad and respected soul and hip-hop artist Musiq Soulchild. While in the Spotify Studio in Los Angeles, the duo recorded an original song, “To This Day,” which combines Destin and Musiq’s smooth vocal to create a mesmerizing, melodious track that’s perfect for a summer drive with the windows down.

On the opportunity to work with Musiq, Destin said, “I’ve done songs with people where we never got into the studio together. We would each work at our own studios and send verses back and forth. To work in the same studio with a legend like Musiq Soulchild is something I still can’t fully put into words. I’ve been a fan of his since before I can remember and now we have a song together! I’m very grateful to Alaysia, NyAsia, and the whole Spotify team who made this happen. I’m excited for the world to hear what we created.”

“I like the song. It’s very relatable. It’s about being candid and honest about your feelings for the one who got away. It’s admitting we ran out of tries.” said Musiq Soulchild.
