Grammy nominated R&B singer Tank is coming to save women with his forthcoming album Savior.
Tank has written songs artists like Monica, Jamie Foxx and Omarion.
GlobalGrind caught up with the busy singer to talk about women and love, the weirdest things that have ever happened to him while touring and of course, his music.

GlobalGrind: You’re working on your fifth album, Savior, what’s your inspiration behind the record?
Tank: The inspiration is simple. It’s all geared towards women. It’s the album to compliment women for who they are and what they do and to really give them more appreciation. For the fellas who don’t necessarily know, then it’s a instructional album for them as well, like the Compliments record. How we should be treating the ladies, you know what I mean?
Are you the savior of women right now? Are you coming to rescue all these women who are scorned and angry?
No, I’m coming to let them know that love isn’t impossible. Because a lot of women have given up on that idea and have settled for whatever they think they can get. The idea for the title Savior is that every woman deserves one. This album is just merely the thing to spark that interest in, number one, women. Looking for a savior in men and not just leaving it to fantasy or fallacy but actually making it a reality. In some sense it starts with music and the things that we hear and put into our bodies, so I wanted to make a album that reflected that image of a savior. The thing that women want and the thing that a man should be.
What is something that you appreciate about women in general?
When you have a good woman and a woman that understands you, like the way she helps you move and progress. When God created a woman he took a piece out of us to create her. So in essence we need that piece. He didn’t take the piece out and replace it. And so in that aspect I appreciate a woman that much more because we need a woman to live.
What’s the nicest compliment you have ever received from a woman?
The nicest compliment was that I’m a great father.
How have you grown as an artist?
I think more so it’s been about transitioning with the music, as far as the sound and the style and the structure changes that have taken place. That’s been easy for me because I do a lot of writing and producing for a lot of people, so staying with the trend is kind of organic because I was help setting the trend. For me the musical growth is just something that happens, like getting in the gym and getting your shots up, the more practice the better you get. There was no real formula to it, but just the matter of staying in there and continuing.
Who are some of your musical inspirations? Who inspires you?
I listen to Adele she’s really great. The heartfelt singing that stuff is just kind of right up my alley. I just kind of try and listen to different stuff from Josh Groban to music where they are still creative musically, and really sing. More of that kind of music. More of the classical, artsy type music is what I been inspired by lately.
If you could only bring three albums with you, what three albums would you bring?
Only three albums? Jodeci, Diary of a Mad Band. Babyface, Tender Lover album. And, let’s throw it off, Rick Ross (laughs). I need to bring the Teflon Don. I work out to that album sometimes.
Yeah, you look like you workout a lot. What’s your health regiment? What do you do in the gym?
Yeah, I’m in the gym a lot. I love desserts, so I’m always fighting myself not to eat a whole cake. I’m in there for three or four hours trying to fight off this whole lemon cake I just ate. I just stay active. If you pretty much just get in there everyday, or at least every other day, you’ll see a big difference. I’m an athlete so I’ve been doing it all my life. For me it’s not really anything special. Everything in moderation. Tou’re going to eat some bad stuff every now and then, but I try to put the salads and the fish. I don’t eat pork or red meat.
What’s your favorite kind of cake, since you like cake so much?
Lemon cake, with the lemon icing.
What’s been like the weirdest or most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you while on stage?
It wasn’t embarrassing, it was just crazy. I was doing a show in Vegas, and I was looking at the front of the stage while I’m doing the show, and you see people crowd up at the front of the stage. In this one part of the stage I only saw a head, bouncing up and down with all this hair. I knew it was a face, and I couldn’t totally see the face, but I would get glimpses of the face, as if the person was jumping up and down but they were really short. So I say, ‘I need a hug, can I get a hug from somebody out there?’ And all of a sudden, this girl—she was a dwarf—I mean when I say literally superhero jumps onstage, she uses her arms and just catapults herself on to the stage and runs like a Ford flat, and hugs my leg—I mean just grabs my leg and holds it. Almost like the dog hump moment. It was so fast and then as soon as she finished hugging my leg she turned around and ran back just as fast and jumped off the stage. I actually tell her, I said ‘Get your ass back up here,’ and I brought her on stage and we did a whole little skit together. And I got on my knees and did a skit with her, it was amazing. She was a cute little dwarf, too. She had a big butt and everything.
What’s something that most people don’t know about you?
I’m very silly. I’m a goofball, man. I’m like always on joke time, always trying to make everybody laugh. I think the only real serious moments I have is when I’m doing a photo shoot.
What’s something that you can’t live without?
Hmm, how do I make it fun? Movie theater.
What’s your favorite movie?
I got a few favorite movies, different genres. Scarface, The Predator, you know, Casino, I have different favorite movies for different moments. I really like Sci-fi, thriller types, like Aliens, and Predator—the first Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers, that one was nuts. That’s one of my favorites, know what I’m saying. Shoot, I would have kicked that Predator’s ass, they didn’t want a real player in there.
When can we expect your album?
I’m trying for February 14.
Is there anything else you want to let your fans know before we leave?
I just want the ladies to, I don’t want them to give up hope. And Savior hopefully can re-energize that thought that there is a savior out there for them and then men will get the hint that women are looking for that thing that a man is supposed to be and can be.
