Destini Warren went to go hear President Obama speak at Hyde Park Academy this past Friday on gun violence, but the news that followed was certainly tragically ironic.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Destini’s 18-year-old sister Janay MacFarlane was killed in North Chicago while visiting friends and family.

As she was on her way to a store in the suburb, MacFarlane was shot in the head in the north suburb according to family.

Paramedics pronounced her dead at 11:30 PM, and police officers did not return calls this weekend so far.

The sad part is that Janay always talked about how tragic the death of Hadiya Pendleton was. The 15-year-old girl was shot dead just a week after performing at Obama’s second Inauguration.

The mother of Janay told the Tribune:

“It’s terrible, it’s terrible the only thing I can remember is my daughter telling me, ‘Mommy, it’s so sad about Hadiya. That makes no sense. She always asked me a lot of questions about death.”

MacFarlane was very excited for her younger sister to have the opportunity to hear Obama speak on gun violence, and would always talk to her about his visit.

We pray for the family and friends of Janay, and hope that justice is served!
