As long lines stretched some 10 blocks from the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, President Obama and his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, greeted the grieving crowd at Boston’s interfaith healing service.

“Everyone of us have been touched by this attack on your city. Every one of us stands with you,” Obama said.

“Whether folks come here for just a day or stay here for years they leave with a piece of this town tucked firmly into their hearts.”

He then assured Boston that they will heal…and that they would run again.

You will run again! Because that’s what the people of Boston are made of,” he said. “We finish the race!”

The president then acknowledged the three fatalities of the bombing: 8-year-old Martin Richard, 29-year-old Krystle Campbell, and 23-year-old, Lu Lingzi.

“May God hold close those who have been taken from us too soon…and may He continue to watch over these United States of America.”

Also in attendance: Governor Deval Patrick, Mayor Thomas Menino and guests that include victims’ families, first responders, medical personnel, government officials, and volunteers from the Boston Athletic Association, which operates the Marathon.
