It’s another Monday! We hope that your weekend went well and that you got the time to relax – but now it’s time to get back to business. For those of you who were lucky enough to spend your weekend out in Indio, California for the Coachella music festival, we have a few special things for you to do today.

Better yet, if you plan on attending the shows next weekend and happen to already be in Indio, today’s installment of Dollars & Sense should be especially special for you. Check it all out below!

Check Out The City Murals:

Visitors to Indio, California should definitely check out the series of murals scattered throughout the city. In 1996, in an effort to revitalize the city, the Indio Chamber of Commerce began a project that would celebrate the city’s heritage while giving its buildings a fresh new facelift. A dozen business people agreed to provide the initial funding to get the project started, and fundraising garnered enough funds to complete eight murals in the downtown area. The murals feature the Cahuilla Indians, early settlers to the valley and paintings of how the landscape of the city has changed over the past century.

Visit The Coachella Valley History Museum:

Visit The Coachella Valley History Museum.  The museum shares the story of settlers who came to the region during the late 1800s. With the Southern Pacific Railroad leading the way, the valley filled with settlers and cities began to form. The museum celebrates the history and culture of those cities, along with what distinguishes this region of the Southwest United States from others. Some of the museum’s permanent exhibits include an agriculture room that celebrates produce such as cotton and grapes that are grown in the valley year-round, a heritage room that highlights the social life, schools and businesses of the valley as it has progressed through the 20th and 21st centuries, and a railroad room that details the history of how the Southern Pacific Railroad contributed to the region’s growth. The museum grounds also include several structures such as a 1909 schoolhouse, a date garden and a blacksmith shop.

Financial Tip Of The Day

Get The Lunch Special

If you insist on ordering food for lunch, try getting the lunch special instead of something from the regular menu.

Most restaurants have a lunch menu that has a selection of meals for a discounted rate during a certain section of the afternoon. The same meal normally cost more if you order it regularly so the lunch special will save you a few dollars that will inevitably add up.
