“For all of you who saw me as a ground breaker, I am sorry I could not carry the ball across the finish line. But man, I did try.”

Those were part of Ann Curry’s last words to the loyal viewers of the TODAY show earlier this week.

While many of us were surprised at how quickly she had to get up and leave, she carried herself with the same grace that she brought to the show back in 1997.

That makes her permanent presence on one of the most popular nationwide news shows come to a total of 15 years.

That’s 15 years of watching her jump out of airplanes, travel to countries with the craziest climates on the planet, and witness some of the most insane moments in history.

So there’s one thing I just can’t wrap my head around … why was her goodbye so damn short?!

Meredith Vieira was on the show a total of 5 years, and she got a whole 2 hours dedicated to her.

How are they going to give Ann, who has proved to be a veteran of the station, 5 minutes to say goodbye, and then someone who’s barely made her mark a whole segment?

That makes no mother-effing sense to me!

I am 21 years old, which may be young to most of you, but I still GREW UP on Ann. In the mornings before school, I would wake up and watch her near freeze to death in Antarctica, and even go into the depths of dangerous parts of Darfur over the years.

She may have been in the background for some time before coming up front for this short year as an official anchor, but she was still there through all of the transitions and memories I lived to see.

She deserved to have a whole two hours, or even a whole separate segment, dedicated to her work for TODAY. Whatever terms she left the show on, she still affected the everyday lives of average people just like myself, and reported to us through some of our most historical memories.

5 minutes to wish us goodbye is BULLSH*T!

I mean, people have already replaced her on the Today Show Wikipedia page!

It’s one of those situations where I have to ask … Is no one’s legacy sacred anymore?

Does the length of our hard work and dedication mean nothing as long as things don’t end as planned?

I say that Ann deserves better than that. She didn’t deserve to shed some bittersweet tears as she gave us that goodbye. She deserved to reflect on her accomplishments throughout the years, just like Meredith and Katie Couric did before her.

I have to say, NBC definitely put a sour taste in my mouth after this one. Maybe Ann can go somewhere where she will be appreciated.

We’ll miss you Ann.
