A pair of twins has been added to the growing list of people, places, and dresses that have the web buzzing.

Maria and Lucy Aylmer, 18, were born to a Caucasian father and half-Jamaican mother in Gloucester, United Kingdom. The biracial butterflies are different in more ways than one. Maria favors her mother with curly hair, while Lucy is an image of her dad with red hair and fair skin.

Photos of the twins circulated online after they shared their story with Good Morning Britain Tuesday morning.

Lucy says the girls are constantly hit with questions, including whether she was adopted. The teens claim the questions don’t both them much and they love their sisterly bond – no matter what people think of their looks.

CNN reports:

“No one ever believes we are twins,” the newspaper quoted Lucy Aylmer as saying. “Even when we dress alike, we still don’t look like sisters, let alone twins.”

The girls attend Cheltenham College, with Maria studying law and Lucy majoring in art and design. Lucy says she’s the shy one, while Maria is more outgoing.

Maria loves telling people at college that she has a white twin – and I’m very proud of having a black twin.’

Their differing appearances may be a mystery within the genetic makeup of the family, but the clan is happy either way.
