New Orleans police have identified a 19-year-old as the shooter in an attack that injured 19 people, including two 10-year-olds, at a Mother’s Day parade on Sunday.

Akein Scott is being sought by the NOPD in connection with the shooting, which has shaken the New Orleans community and baffled law enforcement.

“Akein Scott needs to do the right thing, and turn himself in,” NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas said. “What happened yesterday was an atrocity, and we want to make sure that everyone who took part in that violence faces consequences of the criminal justice system.”

Police said that Scott has previous arrests on charges of possession of firearms and narcotics. He has also resisted arrest.

At about 2:00 p.m., Akein opened fire at the intersection of Frenchmen and Villere street.

Initial reports indicated that 12 people had been shot, and four were in surgery. However, the details of the gruesome attack were clear soon enough, and police have confirmed that 19 people were injured in the shooting.

Just yesterday, police released this photo taken from surveillance cameras of a suspect that appears to be Scott.
