I’m thrilled to be writing under the ‘celebrity blog’ section ran by a man whom I admire greatly. Someone who inspires me and who’s daily tweets uplift me. I’m thrilled because this is why I write and sing songs; to have a ‘voice’ to communicate through the gifts I have been given and hopefully touch other people’s lives.

To be called a ‘celebrity’ at this early stage in my music career feels premature so I’ll write under the title of ‘messenger’ for now until such a day soon that I’m accepting my 1st Grammy. I claim when I receive my Grammy as an example of how I think and how important ambition, belief and a positive attitude is to me and the theme of this blog.

As a multi-ethnic girl growing up without a father or any male figure for that matter, I realized late in my teens that I was “independent by default.” I don’t want any violins or pity parties, I had food on the table, and a supreme mother and that’s what’s important but I’m writing about the hope of taking what feels like an impossible situation, an impossible dream, and making it happen. Growing up with an absent father is tough, you ask yourself why, then you get mad, and then you can either become a statistic, or you can go out there and be great. As a woman of faith I don’t need daddy’s trust fund or that person watching me in my school plays to achieve greatness. I have my mother, my faith and a dream. So I want to encourage the dreamers and kings of tomorrow that any thing is possible when you want something bad enough.

Everyone thinks that the hustle is in hip- hop , the streets, and the ‘urban’ sector of music. Let me tell you that the hustle is in pop and every other business to. It may look all lip-gloss and hair spray but every other pop artist out there probably had to move mountains, just to get in the room, swim with the sharks, and grind globally every day.

My friends in Bristol, UK  (where I’m from) couldn’t believe it when I said “I’m moving to Hollywood to be a singer.” No visa, money or any type of plan and off I went with a solid gold dream.  Failure was not an option, and of course I had the door slammed in my face many times, but you have to keep the train moving, and over come hurdles with grace, faith, and an unstoppable attitude.
