Is it time to admit I Like Nicki Minaj? That question goes through my mind…ALOT. Ya love her or hate her. I Never see a middle ground! Myself, never admired her…always knew she she was gona ‘blow up like the world trade’ though and all you Nicki Minaj detesters CAN’T deny that, lol. Let’s see, us females are very skeptical of female artists, we tend to like the ones we can respect and coming from a girl who’s first CD was Salt-N-Pepa ‘Very Necessary’ (LOL) and looked up to TLC, Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, Eve, etc, I think it’s safe 2 say I wasn’t going to be bumrushing the stage hoping to get my boobies signed. And DAMN IT if she sounded really catchy on a song or held her own with male rappers. *dont sing along girl, Dont. Do. It.* That wasn’t the point, it was me annoyed by the fact little girls grown women thought being provacative, plastic surgery, and pretending to be bi-sexual or a carbon-copy ‘barbie’ was the way to go….but I digress. I am NOT here to bash Nicki Minaj. Yea, Go figure, the same girl who made a point of picking up the last Vibe Magazine with Erykah Badu on the cover and not Onika herself. But here’s where it gets good…*sigh* Nicki’s article was the part I remember most from that issue. So here are the things I’ve come up with 1) don’t hate the girl because she’s reviving female hip hop and someone else you like ISNT, someone has to do it already! Besides, you may see a little of yourself in her and Ooo that must bug you seeing her get all the attention, haha. I admit, I’m an eccentric girl, I love bright colors n acting goofy and still being able to hang with the fellas… 2) Notice she’s shifting her persona, she’s not so raunchy anymore, she’s showing more diversity. We don’t need a gimmick and I think she thinks about what she portrays now. 3) Hate the game, we all see her before and after pics, but no one ever thinks about how she wasn’t the IT girl before, it’s a shame but the industry IS male driven :/ Lastly 4) And Im sticking to this one strongly! After this much publicized beef between the Harajuku barbie and the Queen B…I’ve come to the conclusion that maybe, just maybe…Nicki Minaj isn’t screaming out her praise for Lil Kim because……I don’t think she wants to BE Lil Kim. We’ve seen the similar photo shots, and overtly sexual lyrics in the past, but I really have the feeling that Minaj does not want that to be her image anymore and MAYBE even though she gives respect for those who came before her, she doesn’t WANT to be percieved as the next Kimmy. I’ve noticed she’s become alot more aware of the impact she has..and you know what…now she might be wearing me down. *dont tell anyone*
