At 31 years old Oscar received a full face transplant surgery in Vall d’Hebron hospital in Madrid, Spain.   His jaw, nose, cheekbones, muscles, teeth, eyelids were all newly planted on his face after he had accidentally shot himself in the face.  5 years ago when the incident happened he wasn’t able to eat or breath properly and even after the 24 hour surgery, Oscar will be needing intensive physical therapy.  After the therapy though, he will be expected to regain approximately 90 percent of his functions.

Oscar was seen at a conference and looked fairly comfortable and ready to live a more normal life. This is great news for patients who have been awaiting safe procedures like this to be carried out to fix some major hindrance caused by unfortunate accidents.  Check out the pics!

He is now able to drink liquids and eat soft foods, and has been able to speak for the past two months, the hospital said in a statement. The patient also has regained feeling in most of his face and is partly recovering movement of his muscles. One good sign was that a week after the operation, he had to be shaved because of beard growth.
