When discussing hip-hop the role of woman has often been over looked or under explored, but BET has taken the initiative to explore the truth about female MC’s. Their first music documentary  ‘My Mic Sounds Nice: A Truth About Women In Hip Hop’, is BET’s examination of the truth and legacies of women in hip hop.

Touching on the gender marginalization in rap, the marketing and promotion of female rappers, and the successes ,fails, of some of our favorite MC’s, ‘My Mic Sounds Nice’ delves into the affect that rap has had on ladies and the affect ladies have had on it.

In order to get such an indepth look director Ava Duvernay interviewed countless artist,musicians,music executives,journalist. Along with some of the most popular female MC’s including Trina, Eva, Salt and Pepa,Missy Elliot and MC Lyte.

Creatively shot with vibrant colors and angles, ‘My Mic Sounds Nice’  takes a beautiful look (both literally and figuratively) into how females have taken part and grabbed control in this male dominated field. It truly tells their stories.

Covering everything from the support of successful male rappers to the sexual evolution of the female MC this documentary grazes over just about any topic one would debate when it comes to one of the most contended topics within the Hip Hop world.
