An estimated 2,000 people attended a memorial Friday for a popular hip-hop artist fatally shot earlier this month in Inglewood. Here is the latest from the LA Times:

Family members, performers and fans turned out for the funeral at the Faithful Central Bible Church.

M-Bone, whose real name was Monte Talbert, was killed May 15 in the 400 block of North La Brea Avenue in Inglewood. A gunman pulled up alongside Talbert’s car and shot him twice in the head.

The 22-year-old hip-hop artist set off a national dance craze with his  “Teach Me How to Dougie,” recorded by his group, Cali Swag District.

Until 2009, Cali Swag District was a largely unknown group of four Inglewood teenagers making R&B-hip-hop hybrids. Then the video for “Teach Me How to Dougie” set off the biggest dance fad since Soulja Boy’s “Crank Dat” in 2007.

“Teach Me How to Dougie” reached No. 6 on the Billboard rap singles chart and sold about 2 million legal downloads.

Justin Bieber taught Ellen DeGeneres how to “Dougie,” and Ryan Seacrest and Jennifer Lopez gave it a whirl on “American Idol.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Inglewood police detectives at (310) 412-5240.
“We lost a great person, but it shouldn’t be no tears. We should be celebrating, turning it up,” Pee Wee of the hip-hop group the Rejectz told MTV News.
