Rihanna sure knows how to choose ’em! The Bajan’s latest aquisition, on video anyway, is Jamaican model Oraine Barrett, (last seen on GlobalGrind a few weeks ago as part of John Bartlett’s presentation at The Ace Hotel), her love interest in her new video “Man Down” which premiered on “106 and Park” today.

In the video, Orraine plays victim of a horrific crime on a West Indian island. In real life however, the striking model, who is recognizable by a visible scar running from his ear to his mouth, was a victim of a real crime: He was robbed one night while walking home on the island by gunpoint and was slashed in the face.

“My scar is something I don’t really like to talk about because it’s pretty painful to do it but I’m going to be brief,” Oraine told the fashionspot.com in 09. “I was in Jamaica where I was attacked. I was robbed, held at gun point and then got slashed in my face.

Oraine wasn’t interested in modeling until he overheard a conversation between his brother and his girlfriend about a modeling competition called Pulse. He accompanied them to the competition, entered and won. Since then he’s appeared in glossies and campaigns, repping Ralph Lauren and Bartlett, to name two.

“I ended up winning the competition which is the Male Face of Jamaica and the Male Face of the Caribbean 2004. My manager then brought me to NY where he introduced me to almost all the agencies. After a week of deliberating about which one would best suit me, we decided to go with Major Model Management. The rest is history.”
