Plaxico Burress: You Belong To The City
Plaxico’s back.
After 22 months in a federal correctional facility on a weapons charge for shooting himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub, Plaxico Burress is back in the city where he spent almost four years as the primary wide receiver for the New York Giants.
He’s back in the city where he was praised for making the game winning catch in the Super Bowl, the Giants first Super Bowl since Phil Simms was tossing the pigskin and Lawrence Taylor was crushing quarterbacks in ‘91.
He’s back in the city where he lost his NFL career and he’s returned to the city to take it back.
Sunday morning, Plaxico Burress signed a one year contract with the New York Jets for $3,017,000 … 17 being his jersey number.
Many are skeptical in regards to the amount of money on his contract due to the question marks around him turning 34 before the season starts, and after a two year stint away from the game.

I’m not one of those skeptics.
With two years away from the game, his body has had ample time to heal the nagging injuries he had before his exit. However, I honestly do not think that his 6’5 200 lb+ physique will be the determining factor in Plax’s success on the field. Mentally, he has to be in a place where he feels he’s against all odds.
When you put a world class athlete in that situation, there’s nothing to do but prove everyone wrong; just ask Michael Vick that was told by many so called “experts” that he would never play quarterback in the NFL again.
With the motivational skills of Rex Ryan and the support of his teammates, I look for Plax to be back in full effect this season.
Welcome back Plaxico, you belong to the city.
