Do you remember going to a party and having a great time? Then all of a sudden a fight breaks out and the party is over because of that one person that started and the other person that kept it going.

Or let’s talk about that person that keeps robbing you of a great education because he or she wants extra attention so they start a fight. Usually over something so small.

What about the person that just has lost all respect for life so he takes another.

Well America the youth of this nation are fed up and we are not going to take it anymore. After months of complaining and shaking our heads. We decided to take action.

Contacting organizations that have a history of working to solve these issues. Interviewing gang members and hosting focus groups to come up with anti-violence campaign entitled “Shake Off Violence” to save our generation from dying.

November 11, 2011 marks the official kick of our Shake Off Violence campaign, beginning with a ninety day cease fire. The purpose of the campaign is to raise public awareness about youth violence and to promote peace.

With a 40 percent rise in gang membership and a surge in gun violence, National Action Network and Youth in Action brings together leaders in the anti-violence community, music industry and political arena for a series of events and activities to promote peace among youth.

Participating cities include: Huntsville and Montgomery Al./Washington, D.C./ Atlanta  GA/ Augusta GA, St. Louis Miss./ Jacksonville NC./ Philadelphia Penn./Detroit, Mich./Bronx, Harlem, Long Island, and New York NY. /Milwaukee Wis.

The goal of this campaign is to save lives by bringing attention to the simple fact WE HAVE TO GET THESE GUNS OFF OUR STREETS. We need new gun laws that will protect our future.

How can you get involved? Starting November 11, 2011 do not watch or listen to violent music or shows. Do not participate in physical or verbal violence. No thinking violent thoughts either. We need people talking about this at your job on your college campuses and in your homes. We will have workshops, PSA and forums created by youth to save our generation so please visit our website youthnactionusa.com.

I believe all thing are possible if we try. I hope you will join us as we take a stand against violence.

#ShakeOffViolence
