UPDATE:

After reporting this morning that boxing icon Muhammad Ali was hospitalized after slipping out of consciousness at his Phoenix-area home, we are happy to report the champ is doing just fine.

According to close family friend John Ramsey who spoke with Ali’s wife Lonnie, he said the champ is doing as well as can be expected.

According to the Courier Journal:

Ramsey spoke by phone with Ali’s wife, Lonnie, Thursday evening, and said in an interview Friday morning that the three-time heavyweight boxing champion and humanitarian is “home and well, for a person who has had Parkison’s since the 1980s. He may not be going in the direction you or I like, but no one is on alert. That’s the truth.”

Star magazine, who originally broke the story, said paramedics and police have confirmed a 911 call was placed around 6.30 p.m. from a woman at the couple’s 6,000 square foot estate. The Star said it had independently confirmed that the boxing legend was unconscious.

“The victim started to pass out in the car and when they got him into the house he fell unconscious,” Alan Laitsich, a spokesperson for Paradise Valley Police, told the Star.

The magazine acknowledged that it didn’t know what Ali was treated for at the hospital, or how long he spent there.

But it said that Ali spent Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas with family members.
