Lowe’s Islamophobic moves caught the attention of the mainstream media, as famed blogger Perez Hilton has now joined the fight against boycotting the home improvement giant.

Lowe’s pulled their advertising from the television show, which follows the real life of a Muslim-American family, after protests from the Florida Family Association who claimed that the show only portrays Muslims who are ordinary people and excludes Islamic believers with alternative agendas.

Russell Simmons, who is chairman of the The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, which promotes racial and inter-faith harmony, particularly among Muslim-Jewish relations, has continued to put the pressure on Lowe’s saying:

“This can’t happen in America; [Lowe’s] needs to fix this immediately. They can’t get away with that, it’s ridiculous. There are American principals at stake here. I can’t imagine the Anti-Defamation League, the NAACP, the National Urban League, or any organization that fights for their own rights will allow this to happen to any other group because they know they’re next.”

Rabbi Marc Schneier, who works with Simmons, also condemned Lowe’s insensitive behavior saying:

“We are each morally responsible for every wrong we have the power to prevent and fail to prevent. For high-profile advertisers to accede to pressure to pull their advertising from a program that accurately portrays Muslim-Americans as loyal and productive American citizens would be to cravenly surrender to a highly sophisticated campaign aimed at demonizing all Muslims.”

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), one of the only Muslims serving in Congress, released a statement after Lowe’s decision to pull its advertisement from TLC’s All-American Muslim series:

“Lowe’s Corporation has chosen to uphold the beliefs of a fringe hate group and not the creed of The First Amendment, which guarantees the free exercise of religion.

This is disappointing since the success of All-American Muslim shows how ready the country is to learn about Muslims as Americans.

This probably makes hatemongers uncomfortable – as they should be. Our nation’s history is full of examples demonstrating how we have repeatedly torn down false divisions hate groups choose to create.

But the struggle against bigotry and hatred must continue, so we never give into intolerance like Lowe’s Corporation has.

Corporate America needs to take a stand against these anti-Muslim fringe groups and stand up for what is right because this is what it means to be an American.”

GlobalGrind will also continue to put the pressure on Lowe’s to apologize and promote a positive image of Muslims around the world. Do your part and sign the petition, we want 100,000 names, the game is on.
