The app may seem like an excellent idea but citizens are worried about how the app will collect data and present various neighborhoods.

According to Microsoft, the app will use crime statistics to determine what part of town to avoid and what areas are dangerous. It also still very unclear on where the data will be collected and how Microsoft will interpret it.

Many feel this app will hurt minority communities that are generally safe and present an ugly picture of their neighborhoods. The product has no name or release date but it is being tagged the “avoid the ghetto” app.

“I’m going to be up in arms about it if it happens,” said Dallas NAACP President Juanita Wallace, who spoke to CBS Dallas.

Wallace spent her afternoon at a rally on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and said she felt safe there, but fears the app may project otherwise.
