Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Kevin Cossom has written songs for the music industry’s elite, but he’s stepping out of the shadows of songwriting and into the limelight of a star.

With his the release of his new EP Hook Vs. Bridge II, Kevin’s creating his own lane in R&B.

GlobalGrind caught up with the “Things People Do” singer to talk about his journey through the music industry, signing with hit producer Danja, and his forthcoming projects.

Take a look a GlobalGrind’s exclusive interview with Kevin below!

You’re signed to Danja’s label, how did you guys link up?

Actually, it was a while ago, a few years ago, through my publishing company. They sent me to do some writing for this girl group and he was the producer for the session and I was the writer. We never met before prior to that, and we went in, worked together for like three days. On the third day—the last day—he asked me if being a song writer was the only thing I wanted to do, and I was like…

You were like “hell no!” right?

(Laughs) I’m like, doing the artist-thing was always primary for me and this was me starting off in the game as a new writer at the time. It was helping get the foot in the door and also paying the bills. So it was like “nah, this is not it.” We set up some time to get in together and we went in for like a week, and we came up with like four or five crazy records. We were kind of like “OK, we might be on to something.”It just made sense. The chemistry was there. And both of us were in the same head-space as far as creativity and trying to be versatile and touching every genre. All of It just made sense.

What can the fans expect from Kevin Cossom in the near future?

I’ve been working with DJ Khaled. I just wrote one of his joints, his first single, it’s called “Take it To The Head” and that’s a record that was just released. It’s got Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown and Rick Ross on it. I think it just impacted number one on urban radio. I’ve been in with Kelly Rowland.

You have a lot of stuff up your sleeves.

Yeah, I have a few things up my sleeves. And a lot more than that, as well. I don’t want to say too much…

Until it happens, right?

Yeah, you know. I’ve been in L.A. for like two weeks going in, working with a lot of people. I’m excited about the future, definitely. A lot of good things to come. And the mixtape, as well.

Congrats on the new mixtape and is there anything else your fans should look out for?
