Amazingly, it’s been 10 years since the great D’Angelo performed in the United States.

That will change on July 6.

D’Angelo Back! D’Angelo Rocks First Concert In Over 10 Years!

The singer will be opening up the 2012 Essence Music Festival, in New Orleans. Also expected to show up at the event are artists like Trey SongzAretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige.

Since he dropped his classic sophomore album,Voodoo, back in 2000, the soul singer has been somewhat of an enigma. He went on a sabbatical where he dropped no new music, did no interviews, nor performed at any live shows. He did do a couple of minor collaborations with the likes of Common and Q-Tip, however.

Earlier this year signs of a comeback started to hit the ‘net. Questlove gave various interviews talking about a comeback album, even going so far as to say “he’s in the home stretch right now,” telling Billboard back in October.

Then videos and pictures of D’Angelo performing around Europe started popping up, with the reviews of the shows being mostly positive.

Let’s hope our guy D’Angelo can make a full comeback!
