The Daily Grind Video

It seems that the Governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell, is declaring April, ‘Confederate History Month‘. This might be a bad move; McDonnell’s rational for this is that the confederacy is a defining chapter in Virginia’s history and it should be studied, understood and remembered by all Virginians. The Confederacy was made up of eleven southern slave states from 1861 to 1865.

It’s just weird, in a time when our President is unpopular, tea party protesters are becoming increasingly violent, militias’ wanting to kill police officers and an overtone of racial tension, I think the last thing the people of Virginia need is a ‘Confederate History Month’, and for the Governor to introduce this is an EPIC FAIL.  I wonder if everyone will observe Confederate History Month? It seems that all won’t be included in this celebration; I don’t think the black citizens of Virginia will be honoring Confederate History Month. This is something that won’t help bridge divisions between whites and blacks in Virginia. The fact is McDonnell has to suck up to his constituents which are white christian conservatives and this new initiative is something they can get behind but when you do something like this you alienate others. The Confederacy isn’t and wasn’t considered a good thing, it’s connotation is slavery and segregation very unpopular views and for the Governer of Virginia to declare this month ‘Confederate History Month’ is crazy.
