Nelly Furtado may be a pop star, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like to spike her music with hip-hop every once in a while. Case in point: her first single, “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better),” off her upcoming album, The Spirit Indestructible. According to Nelly, the song, which features moody synths, was heavily inspired by the sound of Odd Future. She told MTV this: “I think I was listening to Odd Future or something, and I was inspired by how dark it sounded and how heavy and visceral and how it made your blood feel things. And I just thought, ‘Wow — that’s really missing in music.’” [MTV]

Lana Del Rey is famous for making downbeat music. That’s why it’s so ironic that the singer’s second single, “Blue Jeans,” is featured on a Nespresso coffee commercial. Click on the link to check out the ad. [Complex]

Who would have guessed it: Common is a Waka Flocka fan. Talking to XXL, the legendary rapper gave Waka some major props: “I think [Waka] brings a certain energy, a warrior energy to hip-hop that is really rooted in what Atlanta has been, but it’s still can touch all over the country and the world now. Basically, I just think he brings a high energy to hip-hop.” [XXL]

A while back, there were rumors that Rick Ross was considering signing underground favorite Curren$y to his label, MMG. According to the Hot Spitter himself, this is not true: “…we’re all good with the homie [Rick Ross], but I don’t think that transpired — at least not for me.” [HipHopDX]
