This morning Peter Som showed his Spring/Summer 2013 collection during New York’s Fashion Week. While most designers seem to be going crazy trying to get their collections together, Peter Som seemed cool, calm, and collected when Refinery 29 took a trip to his chic West Side studio in New York City.

The designer gave some insight into his inspiration behind the collection, showed off some of his sketches and even gave tips on surviving fashion week. Check out some excerpts:

On surviving fashion week:

“I try to eat healthy. I mean, it’s those afternoon and late-night moments when all the catering is there and you just want to eat everything on the plate. Try to avoid eating your feelings.”

On the inspiration for his collection:

“For spring, I’m calling it, ‘women on the verge.’ It’s a bit of a darker take on my romantic woman. She’s a little bit unraveled, but still chic.”

On who his favorite models to work with are:

“Oh Gosh, I’ve worked with so many through the years — you know, from Sasha to Coco to Carmen. Currently, I love Liu Wen. I love Ruby Aldridge. Kind of the cool girls with a classic beauty, but with a little bit of something extra.”
