OK, you win Donald Trump, you got everybody to tune into your “big” announcement yesterday that was supposed to have a damaging effect on the 2012 election.
You win; you’ve achieved your goal of having everyone talk about you for the better part of the day yesterday.
You win; everyone’s talking about how stupid you are, is that what you wanted?
You win; you are the definition of any press is good press, hell, even I’m writing about your shenanigans.
If you’re unaware, the billionaire real estate mogul and reality TV star proposed a challenge to President Barack Obama in a YouTube video yesterday.
Sitting on his throne in his high rise office as New York City peeks in the background, Trump gave Obama an ultimatum of sorts: he asked Barack to release copies of his school records and passport, and if the President produces said documents, Trump will donate $5 million to a Chicago charity of Obama’s choosing.
He gave the President until October 31st at 5pm to deliver.
Trump was successful last year after consistently baiting Obama to release his birth certificate, after the Tea Party and other Republicans latched onto the birther movement for dear life.
Thinking he would go two for two, Trump trumped up this insanely ridiculous offer to the President. But where’s the respect?
What’s really shameful is the fact that a billionaire would dangle $5 million in the face of a Chicago charity like a piece of meat, considering that the city has been plagued by violence and poverty on a daily basis.
And of course, Trump got the attention he so desperately craved; everyone furiously tweeted about Trump’s challenge to Obama.
Stephen Colbert even said that he’s willing to give Trump $1 million of his own money … if he could dip a certain part of his anatomy into Trump’s mouth. I’d actually like to see that…
And showing his wit yet again, Obama couldn’t help but respond to Trump’s latest antic. Last year, Obama called Trump a carnival barker, and last night, he went on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and responded to Trump’s video:
“This all dates back to when we were growing up in Kenya. We had constant run-ins on the soccer field, he wasn’t very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America, I thought it would be over.”
Obama, a true orator, lampooned Trump by treating the whole situation for what it is – a joke.
The real problem with Trump’s challenges is their intrinsic racism. In the opening of the video, Trump said:
“President Obama is the least transparent President in the history of this country…If he releases these records, the American people will know something about their President…he’ll become transparent, like other Presidents.”
It’s time to go behind the words, replace the word “transparent” with “white” and you’ll see Trump’s true ideology.
In the end, Trump will always win, merely because every time he opens his mouth about the President, people will listen. So get ready for four more years of Trump standing on his soapbox, barking to the world about our non-American President.
