Over 917 million views on YouTube, a catchy hook and an equally catchy jig will get you invited to the White House; even after you make a song calling for the killing of American military troops.

DETAILS: Oh Snap! PSY Takes A Royal Title From Justin Bieber

“Gangham Style” star Psy performed at “Christmas in Washington” with President Barack Obama in the front row, just days after a 2004 song he recorded hit the internet, detailing his disdain for American troops killing Iraqi families. The lyrics are as follows:

Kill those f**king Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives

Kill those f**king Yankees who ordered them to torture

Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers

Kill them all slowly and painfully.

The song, which has turned the hopping YouTube sensation into an “anti-American” overnight, has caused public outrage for both the rap star and now the White House. Before the concert, where he performed alongside Diana Ross and Demi Lovato, the lyrics prompted a petition on whitehouse.gov, demanding he be dropped from the concert. It was deleted a day later, the WH website claiming that it violated terms of participation.

The WH has not commented further about Psy’s participation at the event, which the First Family has attended for over 30 years, but the performer’s publicist, Matthew Hiltzik, released this statement on Psy’s behalf:

As a proud South Korean who was educated in the United States and lived there for a very significant part of my life, I understand the sacrifices American servicemen and women have made to protect freedom and democracy in my country and around the world. The song I was featured in—eight years ago—was part of a deeply emotional reaction to the war in Iraq and the killing of two Korean schoolgirls that was part of the overall antiwar sentiment shared by others around the world at that time. While I’m grateful for the freedom to express one’s self, I’ve learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted. I will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused by those words.

While some are enraged about the song, claiming it promotes the killing of American troops, others are praising Psy for his anti-war sentiments and disgust for American violence on victims of war.

Hmmmm…infringement on the First Amendment? We’re wondering if this is the reason why the WH let Psy perform.
