New details are emerging about the law student assassinated in Midtown earlier this week, leading police to believe he was working as a drug courier.

According to the Daily Mail, Brandon Lincoln Woodard was shot and killed execution-style after a large sum of money he was carrying was confiscated by police in California. The 31-year-old father of one reportedly flew to New York from Los Angeles to smooth things over with the people he worked for, but police believe things didn’t go accordingly and he was executed in broad daylight on Monday.

The New York Daily News reports that Woodard had been carrying tens of thousands of dollars that was meant for drug dealers New York. Somehow, the cash was confiscated by police in California and the dealers still wanted their money.

Police sources told the newspaper that Woodard may have sent a package from California to his associates in Queens, New York. It’s unknown whether the package contained cash, but if it did, it evidently was not enough to satisfy his angry bosses.

Police have said that they have leads in the murder, and they have also identified the getaway driver. Detectives are searching for him, though names have not been released to the public.
