Remember scrunchies and finger waves and jheri curls? Of course you do, because they are some of the most infamously regrettable beauty trends like, ever. Sure we have done some crazy things for the sake of staying on trend, but when you look back at some of the ones you indulged in in 2012 this time next year, will there be a pang of beauty remorse?

Probably, but what fun is getting dressed up if you can’t try new trends?

This year we were a little more fearless when it came to trying new things like dip dyed ombre hair in bright colors, talon nails and top knots, but will they live on?

Check out our predictions for 5 of the most fun beauty trends this year.

Technicolor Ombre Hair

We are going to go ahead and blame this trend on Instagram. It all started when Lauren Conrad sent out a photo of her pink streaked pony tail and sent the beauty blogs into a frenzy. The trend quickly caught on and had everyone from Britney Spears to Demi Lovato and Christina Aguilera adding some color to their lives. It was fun while it lasted, but we think it’s time to give My Little Pony back her tails.

Scarlet Lips

Vampires were big this year on television and in the movies, and nothing says bloodsucker like a vampy lip. The oxblood lip trend took off relatively fast and found its way from risky beauty editorials to complimenting prim and proper looks on the red carpet. Some of the scarlet lip style stars included Jessica Biel, Rihanna and Lana Del Rey. As a great alternative to the classic red, we think scarlet has staying power.

The Top Knot

There seems to be a love-hate relationship with the top knot, but despite resistance to the bun hairstyle, this has some staying power. The high bun has made its way from running errands to red carpets and seriously, what better style to excuse greasy hair on off days?

Braids

Once reserved for schoolgirls, 2012 brought some serious versatility to the classic French braid. From updos to fishtail side ponytails, braids have been having a serious moment that we think is here to stay.

Stiletto Manis

Aside from nail art having the best year ever, nail shape has had some time in the spotlight. Gone are the days of the perfectly squared manicure and the stiletto nails have arrived. Adele, Rihanna, Lana Del Rey and a slew of Instagram stylistas have ensured the stiletto nail a fun little run, but just how practical are the talons for everyday life?

What was your favorite trend of the year?
